Construction Specialist (Internship)

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a college/university as a junior or senior; or enrolled in their second year of a technical college
  • Must be a United States citizen or authorized to work in the United States
  • Seeking students within the program of study: Business Administration, Business Management, Public Administration or related fields
  • Pass a drug screen and background check

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the consultant on new construction, home, and rental rehabilitation projects
  • Consults with property owners to analyze technical rehabilitation needs and conducts on-site occupant interviews
  • Develops procedures for bid proposals, progress payments, specifications, drawings, and work orders, to include the work write-ups and photographs in stages, to support analysis
  • Prepares and solicits bids; conducts pre-bid conferences; reviews bid proposals; and applies materials/labor pricing updates in comparison to contractor bids
  • Conduct pre-construction conferences and issues Notice of Award to the successful bidding contractor
  • Serves as liaison between contractors and property owners
  • Reviews projects plans and specifications to ensure compliance with codes and regulations
  • Inspects dwellings for progression and the satisfactory completion of contracted work; ensures compliance with codes, plans, and specifications
  • Coordinates the completion of projects with other city departments, contractors, and utility services
  • Maintains knowledge of changes in state and federal laws; makes recommendations regarding departmental policies and procedures
  • Receives a variety of documents
  • Review, verify for accuracy, process and notify appropriate individuals or departments
  • Prepares a variety of reports, memos, statements, checklists, specifications, work orders, cost estimates, diagrams, correspondences, forms, purchase orders, technical studies
